Rock Climbing Eldorado Canyon, Colorado
Eric Hinman lives for the thrill.
First time rock climbing - holy shit, that was scary!!
My buddy, world class rock climber, and co-owner of Mountain Strong Denver, Matt Lloyd invited me on a rock climbing excursion last week. We ventured out to Eldorado Canyon - a picturesque State Park in Boulder County.
After arriving, and strapping on a harness, Matt says to me - “ok, we’re going to climb this fast (as I gazed up at an enormous, near vertical cliff), the rope will be tight the entire time. If you fall, it will hurt, but you won’t die.” I replied, “ok”. Then when the rope got tight and I could no longer see Matt, I panicked. I untied the rope from my harness, and was ready to write off rock climbing as something I simply feared and couldn’t do. Matt climbed back down, then broke it down for me - into mini goals - just climb to here and you’ll see me. The rope will be tight. You’re safe. After much debating, we ended up climbing 500’ and I can’t wait to go again! Life lesson - mind over matter. Break things down into small accomplishable goals. What an epic thrill - although I could have done without almost stepping on a rattlesnake!
