Mindful Eating or Routine Eating?

I had a conversation with a friend this week about mindful eating. Is it important to be mindful of what you’re eating, and how much? Of course. But I argued that routine eating is even better. Eating virtually the same things at the same times every day. A rotation of just a few breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. I eat the same thing every day, and I look forward to it. It satiates me, and I know I’ll have energy from it. Here’s my routine:

6:30 am: 16 - 20 ounces of coffee w/ a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of ghee

10 am: During my first workout, I eat a Best Bar Ever (original flavor)

12:30 pm: Dine out. A large salad (at Original Grain) with two eggs.

Big bowl of Mixed Greens, 1/4 cup Edamame, 1/4 cup Sweet potatoes, 1/4 cup pickled onions, Kimchi, 1 piece of bacon, 1/4 cup almonds, 1/4 cup broccoli, Two Eggs, Green Goddess Dressing

7 pm: Dine out. A rotation of 3 places (when I’m home) where I get the same menu items - generally satiating salads (with eggs), with a side of more vegetables.

The York: 

THE YORK SALAD /12 Romaine, Eggs, Bacon, Cucumber, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Black Olives, Red Onion, Roasted Red Pepper, House Vinaigrette.

Otro Cinco:

Eric’s Spinach Salad

Spinach, blanched almonds, queso fresco, corn salsa, guacamole, shredded chicken, orange chipotle dressing

aPizza:

Antipasti Bowl

Farro, Mixed Greens, Prosciutto, Artichoke Hearts, Roasted Red Peppers, Banana Peppers, 2 Fried Eggs, Red Wine Vinaigrette. I also order a side of brussels sprouts.

At night, I snack on homemade cashew butter.

I truly believe the fewer decisions you have to make about food, the better you’ll eat and perform. Put it on autopilot so you can focus your mental capacity on other tasks!
