Meet Fellow Gent Eric Hinman
An entrepreneur, gym freak, triathlete, ironman, business owner and brand ambassador - there's not much Eric Hinman doesn't do. We spoke with him on how he manages everything and what it takes to master life. And if you're feeling up to it, here's a week of his workouts.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What's your name, where are you from?
Eric Hinman. I grew up in a rural town in Upstate, NY - Pulaski - a mecca for fishing + snowmobiling! I now reside in Syracuse, NY.
When did health and fitness become such a big part of your life?
In 2008, I starting working with a personal trainer and got back into shape. That led to competing in local triathlons; local triathlons led to Ironman triathlons! In 2012, I really made it a lifestyle - every day is based around getting my workouts in and healthy eating - it's so important for me to function at a high level, with focused energy, mental clarity, and a zest for life!
What gets you out of bed every morning?
Passion + purpose! If I start to feel like I'm just going through the motions, game over, time to switch things up! Right now my passions include - CrossFit - I'm training for the 2017 CrossFit Open. Business / entrepreneurship - I co-own an athletic facility (Urban Life Athletics), a healthy fast casual restaurant (Original Grain), and a triathlon/endurance coaching company (Endurance Squad). I'm also an angel investor in several health and wellness companies based out of NYC - Swerve, Ten Thousand, WellWell, and Fitner Media. I love interacting with other passionate people, entrepreneurs, and folks into health + wellness.
My new hobby is photography - I'm learning everything I can about it!
What's a typical day like for you?
When I'm not traveling:
Every day starts with coffee! At the moment, I'm blending ghee + coconut oil with my morning Joe.
AM Gym session at Urban Life- 10 - 12 Olympic Lifting, gymnastics, Crossfit Metcons
12-2 Lunch + Meetings at Original Grain.
PM gym session - 2-3 Conditioning
3 - 5 Meetings, generally back at Original Grain.
5 - 9 catch up on email, dinner, read blogs I'm interested in, and resting up to do it all over the next day!
What's next?
I love to travel, meet new people and see new things. I always look to provide value where I can - insight, advice, connecting people, etc. I've come to realize, if I do the above, "collecting dots and adding value", amazing opportunities will present themselves 👍🏻
